SFU Libraries is pleased to announce our new Txt Us service. Now you can ask the library questions via cell phone text weekdays from 9-4:30. Use Txt Us to ask simple, quick questions (up to 160 characters) that can be answered in brief responses (up to 320 characters). If our responses exceed 160 characters, they appear as 2 messages.

Should your question require a more lengthy or detailed response, we will forward your question to the most appropriate liaison librarian. Questions sent outside of service hours will be answered the next service day.

June 30th, 2011

Staff at the SFU Library are developing a new search tool for the library’s web site.  The new tool simultaneously searches several different library services from a single search box.

Please test it out and let us know what you think: http://search.lib.sfu.ca/

A short survey asking for your thoughts is here: https://websurvey.sfu.ca/cgi-bin/WebObjects/WebSurvey.woa/wa/survey?85247430.

In lieu of the survey, you are also welcome to contact the library’s Web Libriaran Nina Saklikar (nsaklika@sfu.ca) directly.

Thank you for your time in providing feedback. Your comments are a great help to the library in keeping our resources convenient and accessible.

LibX now available at SFU

May 6th, 2011

LibX is a browser plugin. By adding it to your browser toolbar (Firefox or IE)  you can quickly check whether SFU Library has a book or article that you’ve come across online. Originally developed by Virginia Tech and modified for SFU by our Systems programmers, with LibX you can…Right-click on a title, author, keyword, or phrase and directly search the SFU Library catalogue; Right-click on a title (etc.) and directly search Google Scholar (which can then connect you to SFU databases); Right-click on an article’s abstract at a publisher site and reload it through our proxy servers so that the publisher knows you are an SFU researcher and let’s you view it (if we subscribe).

Downloading takes only a minute. You’ll find the link and further instructions on use here: http://www.lib.sfu.ca/my-library/services-for-you/libx-browser-plugin

For assistance with LibX, please email SFU Library Systems at libhelp@sfu.ca
