Celebrating SFU Authors – Invitation to Submit Publications

Tuesday, January 11th, 2011

For the past three years, the SFU Library has hosted an annual event celebrating SFU faculty, students and staff who have authored a book or book chapter published in the preceding year. Planning is underway for the next event honouring books published during the 2010 calendar year. A reception to mark the accomplishments of SFU authors will be held on March 22, 2011 from 3:30pm to 5:00pm in the Library’s Special Collections and Rare Books Division.

The Library is currently accepting nominations for publications to be recognized as part of this celebration. The eligibility criteria are straightforward:

• Author/co-author of a book or book chapter published during the 2010 calendar year
• Author is a current SFU student, current staff person or current/retired faculty member
• New works only (no reprints or revised editions)
• No articles in journals or magazines

SFU authors who meet the eligibility criteria listed above are invited to submit their publications via the survey at: http://websurvey.sfu.ca/survey/68122257

The deadline for submissions is February 15, 2011 (extended from Feb 1, 2011). For more information, please contact Angela Raasch at araasch@sfu.ca or 778-782-4084.

Food For Fines Campaign April 11 – 24

Friday, April 16th, 2010

Dig through those cupboards and save yourself some cash while helping those in need!

SFU Library’s “Food for Fines” campaign is happening at all three libraries. Bring in non-perishable food items and watch your fines disappear. Donated food goes to SFU Food Bank.

How it works:

  • A $2 fine waiver will be applied for each item donated to a maximum of $20 (10 items) per campaign.
  • Donated food must be non-perishable – suggested items include:
    • canned fruit
    • cereal
    • canned beans
    • juice/juice boxes
    • pasta
    • canned vegetables
    • children’s lunch snacks
  • The waiver applies only to current fines. It does not apply to charges for lost or damaged items and cannot be used as a credit to be applied to future fines.
