New Database: Naxos Music Library

Friday, March 26th, 2010

THE SFU Library is very pleased to announce that we have a new subscription to the Naxos Music Library (NML). You can access this product via the library list of databases or, directly, via http://cufts2.lib.sfu.ca/CRDB/BVAS/resource/10480

NML offers streaming access to more than 40,950 CDs with more than 586,500 tracks (as of March 2010). On average, 500 new CDs are added to the library every month from the catalogs of more than 50 classical, jazz and world music labels, including independent classical labels, world music, jazz, film music, nostalgia, classic and contemporary rock content.

You can search for works by title, composer, label or keyword and browse title lists by label, composer, performer, genre or performer. NML provides playing times of individual works or movements, detailed music notes, and opera libretti, as well as  biographies and discographies for composers and performing artists, synopses of over 700 operas, a pronunciation guide for composer and artist names and a glossary of musical terms.

For educators, check out the “Study Area” link on the navigation bar to access music education curriculum content approved by UK, Australian, Korean and North American education authorities.

Educational use of these recordings (i.e. in the classroom or studio) is permitted but public performance rights are not included.   Subscribers can also create personalized playlists.
