Field School Testimonials: Indonesia

Indonesia: An Inspiration
By: Ana Linares

Ana Linares spent last fall as a participant in the Environmental and Ecological Education Field School in
Indonesia. Here’s what she had to say about her experience studying abroad..

I feel so fortunate to have been able to participate in the Environmental Education Indonesia Field School for so many reasons. I saw many beautiful and fascinating things, both on land and in the water, and met many wonderful and inspiring individuals throughout my journey. I was more than a tourist with a camera. I got to learn a new language and see and do things that packaged five-star resorts would never allow you to experience. This field school experience has completely changed my life and the way I appreciate the environment and it has inspired me on both an academic and personal level. I hope one day my experiences will manifest into actions for change when I become a high school teacher by sharing the importance of place-based learning experiences with others. I believe field schools should be mandatory for all SFU students, in particular ones focusing on the environment
