Getting ready for the workshop on blogs

To help Jason Toal and David Rubeli plan the Educational Technology Series workshop on Blogs in Education, we invite registered participants to comment below and tell us some details  about:

  • your field of study or area of expertise
  • a course your teach or TA (level, size, students) – if applicable
  • your familiarity with the Internet
  • why you are interested in blogs
  • what you would like to get out of the workshop

    a course your teach: Principles of Microeconomics ECON 103 (>150 students), Economic Development ECON 355 (108 students)

    your familiarity with the Internet: surfs a lot, but never blogged, or created a website

    why you are interested in blogs: to connect more with the internet savvy new students

    what you would like to get out of the workshop: how to create an effective website where I can blog interactively with my students

    your familiarity with the Internet: Familiar (some web editing) Not very familiar with blogging.
    why you are interested in blogs: To send updates for our international students in a blog format (not sending text/picture heavy e-mails and instead sending links to blogs). Archiving, calendars, and search options seem very useful as well.
    what you would like to get out of the workshop : learn blog lingo and assistance in setting up the foundation of a blog.

    * why you are interested in blogs: To explore how it can be use in online courses to facilitate learning.

    why you are interested in blogs: there has been recent interest in having students blog about their co-op work term experiences and learning from each other’s blogs
    what you would like to get out of the workshop: basics of blogging

    familiarity with internet: web-friendly, but no experience creating a blog (only reading others)
    why I’m interested in blog: an area we want to explore in PAMR

    I am thinking about using wordpress MU to coordinate students’ blogs with two objectives: creating a personal blog for one course (where they can post messages, comment on each other’s,..) and creating a portfolio of their language learning experience.

    Options on different interfaces, more information about wordpress MU if possible.
