Alumni access to ebooks

Tuesday, June 28th, 2011

Q.
I’m about to graduate with a PhD degree. Can I still access the ebooks through the library websites from home?

A.
Hi

I assume you mean whether you can still access them as an alumni.

In most cases the answer is no – as an alumni you will not be able to access e-books from home. It is really dependent on the vendors and most e-book vendors restrict usage to current sfu faculty and students. Some vendors may allow unrestricted access but not many so in most cases you are going to be asked for authentication and will be blocked.

Lending out camcorders

Tuesday, June 28th, 2011

Q.
Do you have a service for lending out camcorders at all? Thanks so much.

A.
Only the Surrey Campus branch of the Library loans out camcorders. We have a small collection of equipment that can be borrowed by current SFU faculty, staff and students:

http://www.lib.sfu.ca/surrey/lib-equipment-inventory

We currently have two Panasonic camcorders that can be borrowed overnight, due the next day at noon. Borrow and return at Surrey only.

Returning books at alternate SFU libraries

Tuesday, June 28th, 2011

Q.
Hello, I checked out almost 16 books last week at the Bennett library (Burnaby), I was just wondering if I could actually return them to the Belzberg (Vancouver) library. Do I have to go back to the original library to return my books? Thank you.

A.
Hi

As long as they are not Reserve items they can be returned at any SFU campus library (Reserve items need to be returned to the library from which they were borrowed).

I checked your record and none of the books you have checked out is a Reserve item so you can go ahead and return them all at Belzberg.

Monday, June 20th, 2011

Q. Is the request books from other library site down?

http://www.lib.sfu.ca/find/document-delivery/request-form

A. The Request Items from Other Libraries site is available. On rare occasions, due to network issues, the interlibrary loans online forms do not work, but all is working fine right now. Please don’t hesitate to contact Don Taylor (dstaylor@sfu.ca) if you have any questions about interlibrary loans at the SFU Library.
