Donation of Items by Evelyn Whitell

Friday, March 25th, 2011

Q. I have fallen heir to several books, papers and letters produced by Evelyn Whitell who lived in Vancouver on various occasions: ie 19teens and likely early 1920’s, 1924 -26, 1942 (likely earlier) to 1950. There seems to be a market for the books but I would prefer to give them away if the collection was kept together. Whitell was involved with the Unity Church and became known to my mother’s family by reading stories to children Saturday mornings. The more interesting letters describe visits to Japan and China in 1926. There is one photograph of her as part of a Christmas Card. She is shown sitting in front of her house at 1405 W 39th, Vancouver. If you have any interest in this collection I would be pleased to forward a detailed list of the material.

A. Thank you very much for thinking of SFU. Yes I am very much interested in Evelyn Whitell’s papers. Please do send me your detailed list. I look forward to hearing from you.

Bag Hooks Under Computer Lab Stations

Friday, March 25th, 2011

Q. Hello there,

Could the library please install bag hooks under the computer lab stations like at Harbour Center? This is a great addition because it keeps students belongings off the floor and out of the path of students walking by.

A. Dear Anon,

Thanks for your suggestion. We’ll look into the feasibility of putting these in at the Bennett Library computer areas.

Proxy Authentication for Mobile Access

Friday, March 25th, 2011

Q. Nice layout. Appreciate the subject database breakdown. Would help if proxy sign-in page was also mobile accessible.

A. Thank you for this welcome suggestion.

We looked into a having a separate mobile version of the proxy authentication sign-in page but, unfortunately, the software we use for authentication allows for one sign-in page only.

As time permits, however, our web developer will look into modifying the current sign-in page so that it will adapt on the fly to both regular computer monitors and mobile devices.

Nina Saklikar, Web Librarian
