New purchase? Clint: A Retrospective

Wednesday, June 30th, 2010

Author: Richard Schickel
Title: Clint: A Retrospective
Publisher & where & when published: Sterling Publishing, March 2010
Where you saw this item mentioned:
Acquire for which library?: Bennett (Burnaby Mountain)

A.
Thank you for taking the time to make a suggestion for purchase.

The library has a good collection of academic sources discussing Clint Eastwood’s work as a film maker (check out http://troy.lib.sfu.ca/search~S1/?searchtype=d&searcharg=eastwood+clint to find subject headings linking to the catalogue records for these). Very few of these have circulated suggesting there is not much demand for these titles.

This title is not widely reviewed but I found a reference to this title in the Irish Examiner that said “Richard Schickel, a long-term friend of Eastwood’s and author of a glossy coffee table book on his life and times – Clint: A Retrospective. ” Another review, in the Columbus Dispatch, says “Eastwood and Schickel provide the only perspectives, but the book doesn’t pretend to be more than an affectionate celebration of a legitimate icon.” These reviews suggests it would not be a substantial addition to our research collection. We do have Schickel’s biography of Eastwood which you may want to see, catalogue record at http://troy.lib.sfu.ca/record=b1826842~S1a.

You can make a request for this book from another library via our interlibrary loan page at http://godot.lib.sfu.ca:7888/godot/blank.cgi?hold_tab_dt=BOOK.

Best wishes,
Sylvia

Something in the air at the Library

Wednesday, June 30th, 2010

I enjoy the extended hours at the media centre. It is a quiet and toxin-free zone to study it. I never get a headache or bloodshot eyes from studying in here for hours at at time. I experience headaches and bloodshot eyes, unusual for me, when I study on the 6th floor. There may be some degassing of the materials used to “brighten” the place up. I strongly believe that my symptoms are consistent with chemical poisoning.

A. Hi,

Thanks for letting us know about your reaction to the area. We’ve not had any other feedback with a reaction similar to yours. We will look into what might have caused it.

The main materials used in the 6th floor area (flooring and paint) are exactly the same as what were used in the Media Resource Centre which was completed in 2006. The other possibility might be the wood finishes but those have all used non-toxic materials.

Best regards,

Obtaining a checked out and billed book

Wednesday, June 23rd, 2010

Q.

Hi there,
I would like to borrow a book but it’s apparently checked out and billed so i cannot request it.
In this case, what can I do? Could you order another one?

A.

Hi,

Yes you can request that the library purchase another copy. I have copied the Collections department so are aware that a replacement copy of this item has been requested.

As it sometimes takes awhile for a new book to arrive you may want to request a copy through Interlibrary Loans.

Go to the URL below, select the book form

http://www.lib.sfu.ca/find/document-delivery/request-form

Fill out the information and submit the request. The system will warn you that SFU owns a copy of the book. When that happens just click on the Continue button and carry on with your request. You are allowed to Interlibrary loan a copy of a SFU owned book if our copy is unavailable (lost, billed, etc.)

take care
