BC Provincial Nominee Program – New Language Requirements for Entry Level and Low-Skilled Provincial Nominees

Effective July 1st, 2012, the BC Provincial Nominee Program (BC PNP) is introducing minimum language requirements for applicants with job offers in entry level or semi-skilled positions.  All applicants with job offers at level C or D of the National Occupation Classification (NOC) matrix will be required to undergo mandatory language testing and achieve a minimum standard of Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) 4 across the four competencies: listening, speaking, reading and writing.

Summary of changes to the Temporary Resident Visa application process

As you have likely heard, there have been numerous changes to the application process for a Temporary Resident Visa (Canadian entry visa) in the last few weeks.  We at ISS have been sending updates to all international students on the changes as they’ve happened, and our online handout has now been fully updated to reflect the new process. Here is a summary of the changes to the process:

International Education Strategy – Public Engagement Process

The BC Ministry of Advanced Education, as part of their new International Education Strategy, is looking to gather information on International Education. One of the main venues for sharing thoughts and experiences is at the BC Jobs Plan Engagement website.  This discussion forum includes a series of questions relating to International Education.  The Ministry will use the feedback they receive to develop a plan for the development of International Education in British Columbia.

Position: Event Coordinator, ISS

Duration: September 2012 – August 2013

The Event Coordinator is responsible for coordinating a series of events and day-trips designed to build community between international and domestic students at SFU.  Primary responsibilities include: selection of excursions and events; coordination, promotion and execution of events; recruitment of event volunteers as needed; facilitation at events; and ongoing evaluation.
