Tips for planning your Summer term

Wednesday, March 27th, 2013

The Summer term is full of options for international students.  Whether you’re planning to travel, work, study or just sit back and relax, here are a few tips to keep in mind:

Travelling internationally?

  • Ensure that all your documents (passport, study permit and temporary resident visa, if applicable) will still be valid on the date you return to Canada.  If you need to extend any documents, make sure to give yourself plenty of time to do so before you leave.
  • Print and carry a current SFU confirmation of enrollment (COE) letter with you when you re-enter Canada

Medical Insurance Changes in Spring 2013

    Tuesday, December 4th, 2012

Effective January 1, 2013, there will be changes to how international and exchange students are covered by medical insurance, while they are at SFU.

    NEW STUDENTS

All new international students enrolled in an undergraduate, graduate or exchange program at SFU will be automatically enrolled in a mandatory 4 month primary medical insurance plan starting in their first term at SFU,  through guard.me@SFU. The plan provides interim coverage for these new students during the waiting period for the BC Medical Services Plan (MSP). New students staying in Canada for 6 months or longer will be instructed to apply for BC MSP, in order to be able to opt out of the mandatory plan for subsequent terms.

New students can refer to the SFU Medical Insurance website for more information, and steps they will need to take once they are in Canada.
