External Awards: CAPE Scholarship

CAPE ScholarshipThe CAPE Scholarship provides scholarships to students from low-income and minority backgrounds who are pursuing professional studies such as medicine, law, and management.

CAPE Scholars must be eligible for financial assistance, loan and grant programs, and must be involved in a professionally-relevant community service projectwhile pursuing their degrees.

The award value is expected to be $5,000 and may be renewable for the duration of the recipient’s program.

Application deadline: June 30, 2011.

External Awards: Australia Endeavour Research Awards

Endeavour Awards

Undertake part of your postgraduate or postdoctoral research in Australia with support from the Australian government.

Applications are now being accepted to three different scholarship funds:

  • Endeavour Research Fellowships provide up to AUS$23,500 for North American postgraduate research students and postdoctoral researchers to undertake 4-6 months of research in Australia.
  • Endeavour Postgraduate Awards provide financial support of up to AUS$118,500 for Masters and AUS$228,500 for PhD for high achieving North American students to undertake a postgraduate qualification by coursework or research in any field of study in Australia.
  • Endeavour Executive Awards provide up to AUS$18,500 for international applicants in business, industry, education or government to undertake 1-4 months of professional development in Australia.

Your application should be submitted through Endeavour’s online application system. The application deadline for all three awards is June 30, 2011.

External Awards: Fulbright Student Awards

Fulbright Canada logoThe Traditional Fulbright Student Awards are now open for application from Canadian citizens.  The award is $15,000 and normally begins in September. Basic health insurance and visa are provided.

These awards are intended for graduate students, prospective graduate students and junior professionals who wish to enroll in a graduate studies program, continue their current course of graduate study and research, or pursue an independent research project for a period of nine months in the United States.

Applications are due by November 15 and award recipients will be notified by April 15 of the following year.

President’s Dream Colloquium

SFU President Andrew PetterSFU President Andrew Petter has just announced a President’s Dream Colloquium to bring leading thinkers to SFU and provide an annual forum for intensive interdisciplinary exchange amongst faculty and students.

Each colloquium will provide an opportunity for approved SFU students to gain course credits for attending colloquium seminars, participating in pre-seminars and completing supervised research papers relating to the colloquium’s subject/theme.

Annual funding of $25,000 will be provided by the President’s Office and managed by the Office of the Dean of Graduate Studies.

If you’re a graduate student with an idea for an interdisciplinary colloquium, please speak to your graduate supervisor. (One faculty member will receive teaching credit for coordinating the programme.)

External Awards: Commonwealth Scholarships

Commonwealth Scholarship and Fellowship Plan (CSFP) logoThe Commonwealth Scholarship and Fellowship Plan (CSFP) offers scholarships for study in Kenya, Mauritius, Nigeria, South Africa, the South Pacific and Tanzania.

Applications are open to citizens of any Commonwealth country except those from of the same country as the award.  One award will be available for each country.

Application deadline has been extended to May 31, 2011.

External Award: Ireland Canada University Foundation

The Ireland Canada University Foundation (ICUF) has announced the Dobbin Scholarships 2011-2012. The scholarships fund short periods of exchange, usually one month, between the universities of Canada and Ireland.

The awards are designed principally for scholars and academics who are currently engaged at or commencing graduate level research in a discipline which is, or has potential to be, related to both Ireland and Canada.

The value of the award is $7,000. Application deadline: April 29, 2011
