CEOs Log onto Social Media

Face-to-face conversations with more than 1,700 CEOs in 61 countries this year by IBM reveals that the majority of CEOs think social media will soon replace traditional media as the primary communication means with customers.

The IBM report notes that the CEO conversation has gone from “it’s a fad” to “I’d better figure this out or my company is going to get left behind” in just one year.

Some 16% of CEOs surveyed now use social media as the top way to engage customers. Significantly, CEOs expect that number to grow to more than 60% within the 2-3 years.

The future for traditional media – advertising, call centres, faxes (remember those?) and email is grim. Most CEOs said traditional media will plunge to the bottom of the communication pile in the next three to five years.
